I’ve been doing some web stuff but it’s mostly been web stuff that’s a little… different.
First up is a twitter customization. As you can imagine, the hardest part was understanding how much (or how little) you can change the backgrounds in twitter. The client originally wanted pictures and quotes on each side and the background optimized to 1024 x 768 but after seeing it in action (and the second child on the right being half hidden by the content) we went with just the left.

The same client also wanted their blogger blog customized as well. If nothing else this reminds me why I so love WordPress.

And to round this out, something a little more standard: banner ad. I feel like banner ads come in two flavors: the rotating two words per frame go on forever banner ads and the sorry, this can’t rotate but I still want this, that and the next thing. This was the latter but I think it turned out nicely.

Also, I’ve switched from Contact Form 7 (which I never got to work) to cforms by delicious days which is just wonderful so if you’ve been holding out to contact me- you’re all set now.
[Do you need your own H1N1 poster? Since this post I've created a new H1N1 poster for sale on this site. Check it out here.]
Yesterday I was asked to create H1N1 posters for the elevators areas of a corporate headquarter and I could not have been more tickled about it!
Something about remind adults to wash their hands and how they MUST contact the proper authorities (okay I’m being dramatic, HR) if they’re sick is kind of WWII propaganda/motivational posters to me. So, that’s what I did!

Ways to be healthy with a not-so-subtle-if-you’re-in-the-know “Keep Calm and Carry On” vibe.

For my husband’s birthday this year I surprised* him with some pretty kick ass Red Sox tickets AND a giant poster for us to get on TV with. Apparently, having your wife make you a “birthday boy” sign destined for national TV is quite embarassing and I was only allowed to hang it (complete with giant arrow pointed at him) when the Red Sox were in the lead. Sigh. The photo of me holding it up AFTER their crushing defeat was the only time it saw the light of day.
*It’s hard to keep the surprise up on the Green line surrounded by hundreds decked out in their Red Sox finest from head to toe.
And less than a week later we’re 99% done. There’s still some issues with the contact form that I’ve got my IT guy (my husband) figuring out but other than that- TA-DA!!
I’m really pleased with how everything turn out. There were a couple of design directions in the beginning that I’m very glad were left by the wayside (delicately frayed edges? Oy! Those did NOT fit with the clean rounded boxes) and I love my mid-century modern inspired bright cheery colors more than I even thought possible.
I try not to talk to myself as a client often because it invariably leads to someone walking in on me engaged in a lively discussion with myself but I do believe my designer side achieve all the client side goals:
To have an active voice like Poccuo: (check!)

To have a sense of quirkiness and a lot of information available without a lot of clicking like Squared Eye:
(check!)

To keep in mind the good points brought up in Astheria’s post My Last Portfolio Sucks, Your Might Too: (check!)

And lastly, to add my own spin onto it all! (check!)
I’ve started adding to the ads and direct mail section of the portfolio so take a look!
I’m getting the new website and blog set up now so stay tuned!
